The Three Lions to Begin the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated qualification for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.
City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions match since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to stage the England side for their inaugural game on a Saturday in June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win their group, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Launch and Protest
The tournament was inaugurated at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the location by around fifty pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.

Tournament Schedule

Wembley will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help engage a broader range of viewers.
Host Nations
The Irish team are due to play their first game at the Dublin Arena and the Tartan Army would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.
The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualification process; two reserved places will be reserved for any that miss out on the tournament through the qualification path.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and Spurs’ ground complete the nine tournament locations. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches played at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be staged in Belfast, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
