Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Failings and Player Reaction

Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes this poor.”

He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to battle.”

“Our aim is to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
