Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
